Day 2

Some people are foodies. They adore food in all its simplicity and complexity. They study the differences between one recipe and another and know what wine goes with what dish. I am a wordie, (a logophile). I adore words. I wonder about who thought of the word and whether the word fits the thing that it references. I look up the origins of words often referred to as their etymology. I often find the history of a word interesting in my study of the Bible as well. Take the word love. There are several words translated as love from anchient Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. It seems it was very important to be clear where love was concerned even in ancient times. In modern English we tend to be more generic. We can love a cookie or love a person and while the feeling may be very different, the word is still the same.

Love in all its forms, from casual to intense and personal is expansive. It opens possibilities and plants the seeds for more of the same to grow. The thing that most often gets in the way of love is fear. Fear contracts. In fear we limit our possibilities. Every act of love overcomes fear.

Verse for Today
John 4:18: There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Word for Today
Love

As I sit and breathe and focus today, I will consider love. I will consider what it sounds like, feels like, even what it tastes like when I am surrounded in love and when I surround others in love.
