Day 15
The Old Testament often focuses on the wrath of God. We see over and over again that misfortune and tragedy were considered punishment by God, then along came Job. Job is one of my favorite books of the Old Testament. He is the quintessential representative of anyone who ever felt like life was unfair. Who could blame him, when one calamity after another caused him to lose everything?  Who, in his shoes would not be tempted to say “Why Me?”. My favorite character in Job is also the youngest, Elihu, whose name means My God is He or My God is God.

For the first 32 chapters of the 42 chapter book there is one argument after another over whether or not Job deserved the bad things that happened to him. Job kept saying no while his neighbors shook their heads and said there must be SOMETHING you did to make God so angry. Finally Elihu steps up. He reminds Job that he does not have to answer to his neighbors, that their words and opinions are the words and opinions of man, not God. Job had been wasting valuable time and energy defending himself to others, basically living in fear of what his neighbors thought, wasting energy that he needed to rebuild his life.

Elihu is the only one who suggests Job can release the heaviness of the past by turning his back on his neighbors opinions and surrendering only to God.

Verse for This Week
Job 33:7
[Elihu says to Job that he is only a man and so,] No fear of me should alarm you, nor should my hand be heavy upon you

WordRelease

Today I will enter the silence and release the heaviness of the past and judgments of others that prevent me from having the energy necessary to create a future of abundance.
