Day 5
Every now and then I come across a handy safety tip I did not expect. The one I discovered this morning is that if you are going to have a tire blow out when you are carrying a bad spare, do it in front of a Harley motorcycle shop. I heard the ominous sound and got out of the car to have my worst suspicions confirmed. Barely had the words “oh crap” gotten out of my mouth when I heard someone shouting “Hey ma’am, looks like you need some help!” Of course then, neither of us knew my spare would be bad too. After discovering the bad spare they called on Andy from the Auto Shop who came to my rescue with a used tire. The good Samaritans of Crossroads Cycle had me set to limp to the tire store in no time at all. I was able to get the tire replaced and make my way home safely because of their generosity.
I believe that all stories in the Bible and all Bible characters are ultimately about us and the same is true of the story of the Good Samaritan from Luke 10. We each have had a moment when a kind helping hand offered without expectation of reward made a difference. We each have had our chance to be the helping hand or to be the one who turned away. It takes some courage to reach out to others just because they have a need – a kind of fearless belief that being kind is its own reward.
Verse for Today
1 Peter 3:13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened."
Word for This Week
Kindness
Today as I breathe and go into silence I will remember all the times that someone has stepped up for me and set my intention to step up for the people who come my way.
