Day 6
There probably is not anyone who has not heard the joke about the definition of an optimist. You know the one about the boy shoveling manure in a room because he is sure that if he keeps digging through the dark stinky stuff there has to be a pony somewhere.
Stuff happens in life. Our measurement of what stuff is depends on our life experience. Sometimes people look at our stuff and think if that is all the stuff I had to dig through I could find that pony.
No matter, what looks and feels dark and stinky to us, is after all to us dark and stinky. Who has not had a moment when it feels as if the very ground beneath your feet may give way? Jesus knew those times would come that test our faith and our ability to walk forward persevering courageously much like the disciples were tested in the days following the crucifixion. Things do not always work out the way we hoped. These are the times when we lean on our faith to persevere knowing that good times will come again and there may be some good we cannot see yet, hiding under all the "stuff."
Verse:
Psalms 46: 1- 3 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. . .
Word for This Week
Perseverance
Today as I breathe I will feel the strength of perseverance.
