Day 12

Periodically we run into a period where there are a lot of predictions that the world is about to come to an end. In periods like the turning of a millennium or the 2012 end of the Mayan calendar, we start to see people running around in fear buying bunkers and stocking up on food getting ready for the end of the world. People who take advantage of such fears come out to prey on the worries of others.

People have been claiming to know the end of days since almost immediately after the crucifixion. In Thessalonians 2, we see Paul, Timothy, and Silas warning against getting caught up in every prediction of the end of times. He encouraged the Thessalonians to trust in God and leave fearful predictions behind; good advice even for today. As a part of the community of faith, I think it is our job to rest our hope in the belief that the universe is moving as it should. We are called to put our faith in the divine and our hope in tomorrow because each new day offers the possibility of new and better days to come.

Verse for Today
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

Word for Today
Encouragement
