Week 29

Though out the Old Testament God shows up again and again in many ways and tells the Jewish people not to be afraid. After the crisis is resolved with a miracle the people soon forget and return to fear instead of faith at the next difficult moment. It is easy to shake our heads and wonder how these people could have so little faith.

We see Isaiah constantly having to remind his Jewish followers to be calm and have faith. He must have gotten tired of shaking his fist in the air and proclaiming the truth. I am sure there were days when he wanted to give up because he thought no one was listening. In Isaiah 7, the prophet is being urged to perform one more intervention when Isaiah is inspired to go meet Ahaz and calm him down as he faces a political crisis and threats from other governments.

I wonder if Isaiah would still be standing on the corner today shaking his fist at the sky begging us to listen? How many times have you and I done the same thing? How many times have we faced a challenge and forgotten that through God anything is possible? How often have we believed we were facing something we would never get over only to have forgotten the incident in mere weeks or months? In faith, we can trust in the good to come, remain calm, and take inspired action.

Verse for This Week
Isaiah 7:4
Say to him, 'Be careful, keep calm and don't be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood. . .

Word Calm

Today I will feel calm spread over, around, and through me trusting that in faith all my answers come.
